Singing our National Anthem has always caused me to pause and be very grateful to be born in the land of the free and the home of the brave. To this day, I get teary eyed every time I am asked to sing it.
After my first grandson was born, I asked myself, What kind of country will my grandson grow up in? Will he experience the same liberties and freedoms that I experienced in my childhood? Never having run for public office, and never thinking I was qualified, I took the plunge. To my surprise I won my first race in 2008 and the 'Fabulous Folks of the Fortieth District' elected me to represent them in the House of Representatives for the great State of Tennessee. The funny thing is, Who would have thought while serving the State of Tennessee I would become known as the National Anthem chick singer throughout the State?
Being one who believes less government is always more freedom, any legislation I sponsored or voted on, had to pass my litmus test. 1. Was it good for my District 2. Is it less government? 3. How much does it cost?
